Referrals

How to refer someone

Whether you’re worried about yourself, a neighbour or someone on your caseload, this is the quickest route in.

For yourself

  • No referral needed for a first food bank visit – just walk in Tuesday or Friday, 10am–1pm.
  • ESOL and Bright Sparks: turn up to any session and we’ll sort the rest.
  • Golden Hours: ring the Hub and ask for Eleanor.

For a neighbour or relative

  • With their blessing, ring us on 020 7946 0812 – plenty of members are signed up by a son, daughter or neighbour.
  • Worried someone seems more isolated lately? A no-pressure hello from our team is often all it takes.

For professionals

  • Email referrals@brightsidetrust.org.uk with the person’s name, a contact number and which programme you have in mind.
  • We reply within two working days; lunch club places usually within a fortnight.
  • GPs, schools, social prescribers, Citizens Advice and the council’s welfare team all refer to us weekly.

Urgent food support today? Ring 020 7946 0812 before 4pm and we’ll make sure nobody goes home empty-handed. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

Good questions

Things people ask us

If yours isn’t here, ask Sunny in the corner – or a real human via the form above.

Not for your first visit – just walk in on a Tuesday or Friday between 10am and 1pm. For ongoing support we’ll help you arrange a referral through one of our partner agencies while you’re here, over a cuppa. Nobody ever leaves empty-handed.

Three steps: fill in the volunteer form, come in for an informal chat, then we sort your training. Youth and elder-care roles need a DBS check, which we arrange and pay for. Most people start within two weeks.

68p in every £1 goes straight into programmes, 18p keeps the Hub open, 9p raises the next pound and 5p trains volunteers – see the full breakdown. Our audited accounts are published every spring, and Gift Aid adds 25p to every £1 if you’re a UK taxpayer.

Yes – step-free entrance, a lift to the first floor, an accessible toilet, a hearing loop at reception and a quiet hour every Tuesday from 9 to 10am. Assistance dogs are always welcome (and usually get a biscuit).

Absolutely. Between them our staff and volunteers speak more than a dozen languages, and we can book an interpreter for anything complicated. Our free ESOL classes are open to everyone – come to the taster evening on 13 August to find your level.

Yes please – team volunteering days, charity-of-the-year partnerships, payroll giving and event sponsorship all keep us going. See our partnership options, or choose “Partnerships” on the form above and our fundraising lead Grace will be in touch within the week.
