Privacy, without the small print
We’re plumbers, not data brokers. This page says what we collect through this site, why, how long we keep it and how to make us delete it — in the same plain English we use for quotes.
Who we are
TapWorks Plumbing & Heating Ltd, registered in England & Wales No. 08214563, of Unit 9, Argall Works, Argall Avenue, Leyton, London E10 7QW. For anything on this page, we’re the “data controller” — which is legal language for “the buck stops with us”. Reach us on hello@tapworksplumbing.co.uk or 020 7946 0821.
What the quote form collects, and why
The quote form asks for your name, phone number, postcode, the job type, how urgent it is, an optional email and an optional description of what’s gone wrong. That’s everything — there are no hidden fields doing anything else.
We use those details for exactly one thing: replying with a fixed price and, if you go ahead, doing the job. Under UK GDPR that’s “steps taken at your request before entering a contract” (Article 6(1)(b)). We don’t add you to a marketing list, we don’t send newsletters, and we never sell or rent your details to anyone. The promise printed next to the form’s submit button — “We only use your details to reply about this job. Nothing else, no lists.” — is the policy.
If you phone or WhatsApp instead, the same applies to whatever you tell us to book the job — name, address, what’s leaking.
Callout & job records
Once we’ve done work for you, the paperwork has to exist: quotes, invoices, before-and-after job photos, and gas safety records such as CP12 certificates. We keep those because the 12-month guarantee leans on the invoice, HMRC requires financial records to be kept, and gas safety law requires certificate records. Job photos stay attached to the job record and are shared only with you — or your landlord, agent or insurer when you ask us to.
How long we keep things
- Quote requests that don’t become jobs
- deleted after 6 months
- Booking texts & call notes
- 12 months
- Gas safety records (CP12)
- at least 2 years — the law
- Invoices, quotes & job records
- 6 years — HMRC rules
When a period is up, the records are deleted — not archived “just in case”.
Cookies, tracking & your browser
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and stores nothing in your browser — no localStorage, no fingerprinting, no ad pixels, no third-party trackers. The chat assistant runs entirely on the page in front of you and doesn’t record or transmit conversations.
Two things load from elsewhere, so you get the full picture: our fonts come from Google Fonts (Google’s servers see your IP address when your browser fetches them), and the WhatsApp buttons go to WhatsApp, which has its own privacy policy once you’re there.
Who sees your details
- The TapWorks team working on your job — six people, all named on the about page
- Our accountant, when invoices go through the books
- The boiler manufacturer, when we register a warranty in your name — and only then
- Nobody else. No lists sold, no data shared with advertisers, ever
Your rights, and how to use them
UK GDPR gives you the right to see what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict how it’s used, object to our use of it, or take it elsewhere. Email hello@tapworksplumbing.co.uk with “Data request” in the subject — or just call and ask for Ruth. We’ll check it’s really you, then answer within one month, free. The only records we can’t delete early are the ones the law makes us keep, and we’ll say exactly which those are.
If we get it wrong
Tell us first and we’ll put it right — same rule as the plumbing. If you’re still not happy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. That right costs nothing and doesn’t need a lawyer.
